Back in the day I used to watch ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and in one of the episodes Angel recites a poem. I’m not sure what it’s called or who wrote it, but I loved it so much that I went through the entire episode copying down the poem (luckily I had it on tape… yes this was in the days before TIVO and youtube). Ever since I’ve been copying the poem down in various journals I’ve kept over the years.
These days all you need is a little google-fu to find the poem, none the less I love copying it down, and the fiery background on this page seemed to suit the poem perfectly. In case you can’t read it off the photo, here is the poem:
It lies in all of us.
and though unwanted
it will stir
open its jaws, and howl.
It speaks to us
Passion rules us all.
And we obey.
What other choice do we have?
Passion is the source of our finest moments.
The joy of love
The clarity of hatred
and the ecstasy of grief.
It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion, maybe we’d know some kind of peace.
But we would be hollow.
Empty rooms, shuttered and dank.
Without passion, we’d truly be dead.
Oh, and don’t forget that Tam’s ‘The Heart of Art Class’ starts up tomorrow! So excited!!
